Darn it! I missed the first crocus of the year at its peak. It was a purple and white one huddling between the rocks right at the foundation of our condo. I've been like a bear in her den, not venturing out during the winter. The snow in our front yard has begun to rapidly melt, and suddenly the touch of color caught my eye. Even wilted as it is, I view the little flower as a harbinger of spring. I desperately want spring to arrive - need it to arrive. Aside from anything else, it should tell me if the doctor was right when he said my nerve pain should ease up with the onset of the warmer weather.
My Japanese memoir is progressing in fits and starts. I have about 330 double-spaced pages written. There's always more to add, but the big job will come when I must take some away - whittle it all down. Do people want to read a straight narrative, or would they prefer if the book were made up of individual essays on various subjects related to my years in Japan? That is the question.
I should begin setting up more book talk dates, but I'm sort of luxuriating in having none coming up. Unfortunately, they seem to have been replaced with appointments with various doctors. For sure book talks are preferable. At the talks I get to meet a lot of nice, interesting people with stories of their own and I have a chance to introduce my mother Addie and her writing to a wider audience.
Happy reading.
